Gutter Repairs
Rain gutters are a crucial part of the roof system which collects and diverts rainwater shed by the roof. Can you imagine what is going to happen if the water is not being directed away from your home? This will lead to the damaging of wood, bricks, mortar, eroding foundations and flooding of the basements. Consequently, it is very important to keep up with gutter cleaning and gutter repairs to protect your home from such damage.
So what types of gutter repairs are needed? There are a number of repairs that could be needed, but there are some gutter repairs that are very common.
Sagging gutters are the most common type of gutter repair. The reason being that a lot of old gutters are supported by long nails or spikes. The only way to repair these sagging gutters is to replace the spikes with long screws or to add new brackets. There is the possibility that the wood surrounding the sagging gutter has been damaged. In this event the wood would need to be replaced too.
Another common gutter repair is the Downpipes. The Downpipes carry all of the excess water down and away from the house. If debris gets stuck and freezes inside the downpipes, the seam can split. The Downpipe and elbow will have to be replaced, and eventually the bracket that supports the Downpipe.
Leakages are another major concern. If the gutter is leaking it needs to be repaired. Most times this can be done by sealing the gutter at the leak or possibly using a few screws. If the gutter has rusted through completely, a temporary fix may be achieved by sealing the area that has rusted out. However, new gutters may be needed sooner rather than later in this circumstance.
